Where to find your VIN
On most European cars the VIN is on a plate at the bottom of the windscreen, on the driver's door pillar or under the bonnet, and on the registration documents (field E on EU registration certificates). Classic cars built before 1981 may have a shorter chassis number.
How the lookup works
In Classic European, VINs are decoded with a European VIN database. It covers most European makes and gives the model, model year, body, engine and gearbox. When it doesn't know a VIN, we try the US NHTSA database and the makers' own VIN codes (Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen group, BMW). If the model and year still can't be found, choose your car with the car selection tool.
